Cookie Policy

This page says which cookies this website sets, what each one is for, and how long it lasts. It is short because the answer is short. It is kept as its own document rather than folded into the Privacy Policy because a visitor asking "what does this site put on my machine" deserves a page that answers exactly that.

A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store, and which the browser sends back on later visits so the site can recognise the same browser again. Some cookies are needed for a site to work at all; others exist to measure, target or track. This site uses the first kind, in the smallest possible number, and none of the second.

The public website — every page a visitor can reach without signing in — sets no cookies. There is nothing to accept and no banner, because there is nothing to ask you about.

The site also sets no analytics cookies, no advertising cookies and no social media cookies, because it runs no analytics, no advertising and no social media embeds. Reading a page here does not report the fact to anyone.

The administration area is used by our own staff to run the site. It sets a single cookie:

• Name: a session identifier, set by our own server. First-party only — it is never set by, shared with, or readable by any other site.
• Purpose: to keep a signed-in member of staff signed in between page loads. It carries no advertising or analytics purpose and identifies nothing beyond the session it belongs to.
• Lifetime: it expires when the session does, and is removed on sign-out. Expired sessions are cleared from our records seven days after they end.

This cookie is only ever set for someone who has signed in with an account we have given them. A visitor to the public website never receives it.

Nothing. The site does not use local storage, session storage or any other browser storage to remember anything about you or your visit. Where it respects a preference — reduced motion, for instance — it reads that setting from your browser or operating system each time, and stores nothing of its own.

Because the site loads its typeface from its own servers rather than from a font network, and embeds no third-party players, maps, widgets or scripts on its pages, no third party sets a cookie through this site. Where we link to another site, that site's own cookie policy applies once you arrive there.

Every modern browser lets you see, block and delete cookies through its settings, and lets you refuse them for a particular site. Because the public website sets none, blocking cookies here changes nothing about your visit. Blocking them in the administration area will prevent staff from staying signed in, which is the only thing the cookie does.

If the site ever starts setting a cookie it does not set today, this page will be updated before that happens, and the effective date shown with it will change. We do not add a cookie first and describe it later.
